Le château and Zoo de la Bourbansais: Animals & Heritage

A few days ago, we were received at the Domaine de la Bourbansais for an interview with its owner, Olivier de Lorgeril. We exchanged about entrepreneurship within historical residences.

Here, it is the wildlife conservation, and performances around it,  that attract approximately 130,000 visitors each year, and which enable:

• the creation of 70 jobs in high season,

• the perpetual maintenance of this historical place,

• the assurance of the domain's sustainability for future generations, and even

•the recent acquisition of a second site, which now contributes to

• an annual turnover of 5 million euros.

It is a remarkable example, which undoubtedly is one of the reasons for the appointment of its initiator as the president of the association La Demeure Historique, which gathers private owners of historical castles and houses in France.

From this invigorating interview, we have been reassured that entrepreneurship, innovation, and the general public are essential factors to consider, when one aims to build or strengthen the sustainability of a place with high historical value.
